i'm glued to my tv for days, in tears over the suffering i see there, i've donated, left messages and sent emails to my elected officials ripping them a new one for this colossal blunder, i've volunteered two weeks of my time to relieve the overworked nurses in the disaster areas, i've ranted and raved about the incompetence that piled travesty on top of tragedy, i've agreed with all who point out that poverty has played a starring role in who has lived and who has died. for a moment there i heard americans crying out in unison for help for our countrymen, ourselves. for a moment there i heard americans demanding accountability from their government.

and now, on behalf of the real culprits (George W and friends) i'd like to thank the black caucus and al sharpton for throwing the race card.

Al, they are not there because they are black but because they are poor and whatever being black has to do with being poor is not at issue here. your point is that race is a divider. AGREED. why are you dividing us at a point of great unity?

if the federal government would not heed the clear, persistent and well documented evidence that new orleans was a disaster waiting to happen then the state and local governments should have. their hands may have been tied in fixing the problem but not in preparing the people for the inevitable disaster.
